When these Dairy Milk Big Taste bars first came out I vowed not to try this Triple Choc Sensation variety...I'd heard from other bloggers it wasn't upto much, but me being me, I decided to give it a chance when it appeared in my local Tesco recently.
For £3 you get a 300g slab that consists of a layer of Dairy Milk chocolate, white chocolate and "dark milk" chocolate, which apparently means it's a 45% cocoa chocolate with the addition of milk solids. Confusing!
I have to give credit where it's due: this is definitely a pretty cool-looking bar aesthetically with its triangular blocks and triple layered effect. Sadly, it's all style over substance...
The chocolate tasted pretty grim, even worse than regular bog-standard Dairy Milk does nowadays which is saying something. The predominant taste was of sweet, cheap white chocolate, which unfortunately wasn't the Cadbury Dream many of us remember and loved as kids, but an inferior, Tesco Value type of white chocolate. There was a slightly stronger cocoa flavour from the "dark milk" chocolate which improved the bar somewhat, but the actual "Dairy Milk" that this bar is named after was undetectable! In fact it was the thinnest layer of the bar, and as well as that, according to the ingredients list, it now contains "hazelnut paste", which doesn't make it Dairy Milk in my book.
Overall, I have to say I'm very disappointed in this bar. It tastes like a watered-down version of a regular Dairy Milk, and the inclusion of the White and Dark-Milk chocolate doesn't enhance it in any way. It looks cool, but that's where the positives end. I suppose I should have expected all this, after all it was forewarned by my fellow blogger buddies. This bar gets a big miss from me...I think they'd have been better off marketing it as Dairy Milk with Dream and Bournville...or as the Triple Decker bar that's been available in Australia for years now.
