Jude's Peanut Butter Chocolate Ripple Ice Cream

Ever the fan of Peanut-Butter-Everything, I simply had to give this new flavour of Jude's Ice Cream a try when I heard about it recently. I loved the Brown Butter Pecan variety I reviewed a few months back, so was expecting something even more amazing with this.

It's described as "Peanut Butter Ice Cream with peanut pieces and chocolate ripple". I bought it for £3 on special offer from Sainsbury's recently.

It's gluten free, vegetarian and made with local milk. Which is nice - if only Cadbury's would take a leaf out of their book!

I was lucky that when I got this home it was just the right temperature for eating, so I scooped some into a bowl and tucked in right away. There wasn't nearly as much chocolate ripple as I was expecting, which pleased me because I was worried it might overpower the peanut flavours. Peanut ice cream is a hard thing to get right in my experience.

For a peanut butter ice cream I have to say this was lovely, perhaps one of the best I've tried...even nicer than Ben and Jerry's Peanut Butter Cups, in fact (going off on a tangent here, but why is there no Reese's Peanut Butter Cups Ice Cream in the UK? We need it!)

There's plenty of peanut pieces in the ice cream which are somewhere between soft and crunchy, and give it a really authentic nutty taste and texture. The ice cream itself has a nice subtle savoury peanut flavour, just the right balance of creaminess and nuttiness. And the chocolate ripple provides a nice rich chocolatey sweetness here and there, complimenting but never overpowering the nutty ice cream.

Overall, I have to say this is a fantastic new ice cream from Jude's! They've got everything spot on and if you're a peanut butter lover you definitely have to seek these out. Which shouldn't be too hard because even Sainsbury's Express stores have them in their freezers now.
